Job Title: Acting editor of Weekend Magazine (4-month Cover)

Reporting to: Group Head of Features

We are seeking an acting editor of Weekend on a four-month contract. This is to cover the editor’s secondment to digital transformation project. The successful candidate would manage the team of editorial staff and contributors who produce Weekend magazine and digital features content for the Irish Independent across the week.

The focus will be on high-quality and innovative features journalism, with the acting editor expected to secure high-profile interview candidates and deliver high quality, engaging features.

ROLES and RESPONSBILITIES

• Commissioning, editing and producing Weekend magazine

• Working closely with the Audience team/Group Head of Features to ensure content is published digitally at the best time for our audience

• Working collaboratively with freelance and staff journalists, production journalists, visuals, video and audio teams

• Liaising directly with PRs, agents, freelance journalists and other contacts for story generation

• Ensuring that output meets high standards in terms of tone and accuracy

• Effectively managing budgets

• Ensuring published content is free of legal liability

SKILLS and EXPERIENCE

At least five years’ experience as a media professional, preferably with a demonstrated standard of excellence in the following areas:

• Commissioning features

• Identifying and originating fresh and engaging Features ideas

• Lifestyle journalism

• Experience managing budgets effectively would be an advantage

• Experience of digital audience needs and understanding of data
