Job Title: Audience Editor, Crime World

Reporting to: Audience Editor Team Lead, Crime World

Role Purpose

The Audience Editor is an integral part of Crimeworld.com, responsible for making sure our stories are delivered to the right audience, at the right time, on the right platform.

The Audience Editor has multiple premium and free-to-access stories a day to distribute via the home page, newsletters, section pages, push notifications, and social media to ensure they reach the largest audience possible. They have excellent news judgment, a deep understanding of how online readers consume news and are adept at using data to inform your decisions.

They also work collaboratively with the audience team, news editors, video and podcast teams and group editors.

Role Responsibilities (Overview)

  • Distribute our premium and free stories to reach the widest possible audience

  • Curate a compelling home page and editions that reflect the full breadth of stories on Crimeworld.com

  • Manage and send newsletters, using open and click-through rates to constantly improve engagement

  • Optimise stories for search engines

  • Create engaging social media posts that drive readers to our stories

  • Use real-time and historical data to continuously optimise our readers’ experience

  • Keep an eye on top stories to ensure they have the best headline and pictures and are presented in the best possible way

  • Curate section pages so that they engage our more niche audiences

Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)

  • At least 1 year’s editorial experience working in a digital media environment

  • 3rd level media/journalist qualification desirable

  • Experience of digital publishing and distribution

Skills

  • Content Management System–editing, page layout

  • Data literate comfortable - Google Analytics, Chartbeat, dashboards and charts

  • Excellent working knowledge of social media and other digital tools

  • Excellent knowledge of libel law

  • Self-starting, shows initiative, operate without supervision, motivated

  • Flexibility / willingness to adapt

  • Copy editing

  • Comfortable working on digital deadlines in a 24/7 news cycle where speed an accuracy are crucial

  • Ability to multi-task and work across different platforms and channels

  • Excellent news judgement
