Role Purpose

The Audience Editor Team Lead is an integral part of Crimeworld.com, responsible for leading the audience team and ensuring our stories are delivered to the right audience, at the right time, on the right platform.

The Audience Editor Team Lead will help drive the output of the audience team for Crimeworld.com on a daily basis. The successful candidate will manage the distribution of premium and free-to-access stories via the home page, newsletters, section pages, push notifications, and social media to ensure they reach the largest audience possible. They will have excellent news judgment, a deep understanding of how online readers consume news and are adept at using data to inform decisions.

They will also work collaboratively with the audience team, news editors, video and podcast teams and group editors.

Role Responsibilities (Overview)

  • Distribute our premium and free stories to reach the widest possible audience

  •  Curate a compelling home page and editions that reflect the full breadth of stories on Crimeworld.com

  • Lead from the front and oversee the daily management of the audience team in collaboration with the news editor and deputy editor

  • Manage headlines as well as the placement of stories and photos on Crimeworld.com to ensure our content has the strongest reach and possibility of success

  • Help develop a social media strategy in order to ensure crimeworld.com can reach the widest audience possible

  • Manage and send newsletters, using open and click-through rates to constantly improve engagement

  • Optimise stories for search engines

  • Curate section pages so that they engage our more niche audiences

Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)

  • At least three year’s editorial experience working in a digital media environment

  • 3rd level media/journalist qualification desirable

  • Experience of digital publishing and distribution

Skills

  • Excellent news judgement and decision-making

  • Experience with CMS

  • Data literate - Google Search Console, real time analytics monitoring

  • Excellent working knowledge of social media

  • Digital tools: Canva

  • Excellent knowledge of defamation law

  • Self-starting, shows initiative, operate without supervision, motivated

  • Excellent interpersonal and team-working skills

  • Flexibility / willingness to adapt

  • Copy editing

  • Comfortable working to deadlines in a 24/7 news cycle where speed and accuracy are crucial

  • Ability to multi-task and work across different platforms and channels
