Business Development Executive - Gift Packaging
Job description
Role title: Business Development Executive (Gift Packaging)
Function: Reach Group
Department: Reach Packaging
Reporting to: Head of Sales
Role Purpose
Reach Packaging is one of Ireland’s leading suppliers of customised and generic food-to-go packaging, catering disposables, branded bags, boxes, gift packaging, hygiene products and more to businesses throughout the country. Our customer base includes local coffee shops, take aways and fashion retailers as well as nationally recognised brands in both food, grocery and fashion.
The Business Development Executive will be responsible for developing and managing accounts within the gift packaging subcategory of Reach Packaging. The BDE will be liaising with the Senior Procurement /Senior Buyers within national key accounts (e.g. Musgrave, McCabe’s Pharmacy) and will also be calling to our wider customer base of independent gift packaging customers.
The role will involve identifying and engaging key prospective accounts, with a strong focus on building relationships and driving new business opportunities. This will include presenting to senior decision-makers at head offices, delivering tailored presentations that showcase our offerings and address client needs. As a customer-facing position, the role will require frequent travel across the Island of Ireland to meet clients, build rapport, and manage ongoing business relationships.
In addition to prospecting and account management, the Business Development Executive (BDE) will be expected to contribute to the growth and evolution of our product offerings. This will involve bringing fresh, innovative ideas to enhance and expand our existing gift packaging ranges, ensuring we remain competitive and responsive to market trends and customer demands.
Role Responsibilities (Overview)
Manage a diverse range of accounts within the gift packaging customer base, ensuring tailored service and targeted growth strategies for each account segment.
Develop and implement a comprehensive sales plan designed to increase market share and profitability, with clear objectives and measurable KPIs to track progress.
Upsell additional packaging ranges to existing accounts, such as retail branded bags and food-to-go packaging, by identifying cross-selling opportunities that align with customer needs.
Identify and secure new accounts by actively prospecting and engaging potential customers, expanding the client base and driving new business growth.
Gain a deep understanding of customer needs by closely collaborating with clients to identify requirements and working with the internal team to develop innovative product solutions (e.g., new product innovations).
Prepare weekly sales forecasts and monthly budget reports, providing detailed feedback on performance and opportunities to the Head of Sales to ensure alignment with business goals.
Proactively manage stock levels, ensuring sufficient inventory to meet customer demand, while adjusting stock levels based on sales trends and customer requirements.
Maintain strong relationships with suppliers of key gift packaging products, including hampers, cellophane, bows, and other packaging materials, ensuring timely supply and product quality.
Represent Reach Packaging at trade shows and industry events (e.g., Catex), promoting the company’s products, building brand awareness, and networking with potential customers and partners.
Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)
Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience working in a sales environment, demonstrating a strong understanding of the full sales lifecycle—from prospecting and lead generation to closing deals and managing client relationships.
Extensive experience in developing new business opportunities, including identifying and targeting potential clients, effectively engaging with decision-makers, and creating tailored sales strategies to convert leads into long-term customers.
Demonstratable track record of consistently meeting or exceeding sales targets, including revenue and gross profit (GP) goals, through a combination of outbound sales efforts, market research, networking, and strategic relationship building.
Ideally, experience in the packaging industry or a related sector, with a clear understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities within this market. Familiarity with the specific products, solutions, and services offered in the packaging industry would be advantageous, as it helps in identifying customer pain points and offering appropriate solutions.
Proficient in using sales tools and CRM systems to track leads, manage pipelines, forecast sales, and maintain up-to-date customer records to ensure efficient and organised follow-up.
Demonstrated ability to understand customer needs, deliver compelling value propositions, and negotiate contracts to achieve mutually beneficial agreements that drive long-term business growth.
Proven ability to work under pressure in a target-driven environment, with a focus on both short-term and long-term sales goals, while maintaining a high standard of customer service and satisfaction.
