We are looking for a journalist to join the Irish Independent and Sunday Independent Business team on a fixed term contract.

This is an opportunity to work with our multi-award winning team across the Sunday Independent and Irish Independent.

The successful candidate will be an experienced reporter who is a self starter and able to generate exclusive and signature journalism of the highest quality. 

They will be able to work well under pressure and comfortable working across digital, print, podcast and video.

Role Responsibilities (Overview)

• Report on Irish and European business and economics stories accurately, quickly, fairly and clearly

• Develop contacts at the highest levels of business and government

• Help develop our digital business offering across all platforms and story types

• Represent the organisation externally

• Work collaboratively with the Business Editor and wider editorial team

• Deliver high quality journalism to tight deadlines

• Some international travel

• Work early mornings, evening and weekends as required.

• Carry out your duties at all times in accordance with the Mediahuis Editorial Code of Practice and relevant professional and legal codes.

• Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)

• Experience as a journalist including working in national media, trade publications or regional media.

• Good knowledge of Irish, European and world business issues. Excellent written English.

• Excellent news judgment coupled with the ability to write engaging copy and to develop in-depth analysis. 

• Excellent communication and networking skills to build contacts and sources.

• Ability to work under tight deadlines and adapt to changing news cycles.

• Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to convey complex information in an accessible manner.

• Ability to represent the Irish Independent in a positive manner on broadcast media and at external events as necessary

• Strong research and analytical skills.

• Excellent knowledge of libel law
