Role Purpose
Maternity Cover Contract
The Deputy Chief Sub-Editor (Features) supports the Chief Sub-Editor (Features) in overseeing the production of market-leading features, supplements and magazines across our titles, and supports in achieving optimum editorial workflows to ensure digital-ready content across all our platforms.
In collaboration with, and supporting the Chief Sub-Editor (Features), the role holder will lead a team of sub-editors, whose role it is to curate, edit and enhance content for publication across our digital and print channels. The role holder collaborates closely with the Head of Editorial Operations, section, group and title Editors and the Audience team to guarantee the timely delivery of quality finished content.
This function covers a five-day operation in our integrated newsroom on a rostered basis.
Role Responsibilities (Overview)
- Support in leading and developing a team of sub-editors, ensuring the highest possible editorial standards are upheld across all our digital and print content at all times
- Take responsibility for rosters and resource planning, as directed by the Chief Sub-Editor (Features)
- Work closely and collaboratively with section, group and title editors on the selection and display of content, ensuring all content is publication-ready and meeting SEO, UX and print demands
- Optimise digital and print workflows to allow for exacting deadlines to be met while maintaining the highest standard of quality
- Carry out your duties at all times in accordance with the Mediahuis Editorial Code of Practice and relevant professional and legal codes
Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)
- At least three years’ experience in a digitally focused editorial production role, with some team leading exposure
- Experience of all relevant CMS platforms and software, including P-Series, Desk, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
- Comprehensive knowledge of house style
- A good knowledge of media law, especially defamation, privacy, copyright and data protection
