Women in Sport - Media Internship
Job description
Position Title: Women in Sport Intern, Irish Independent
Department: Sports Department
Location: Dublin, Ireland
Duration: Full-time, 6 months
Role Purpose:
To support the Irish Independent in increasing the presence and visibility of women in sport content and output, in alignment with Sport Ireland’s Women in Sport Programme. The intern will gain comprehensive experience across all platforms within the Sports Department, contributing to the production and editorial decision-making process.
Key Responsibilities:
- News and Feature Writing: Research and write articles on women’s sports events and athletes.
- Live Reports: Provide live coverage through writing, audio, and visual formats.
- Podcast Research: Assist the podcast team with research and content preparation.
- Production: Contribute to the production of content for print and online platforms.
- Online Desk: Support the online desk with content management and updates.
- Video Production: Assist in the conception, scripting, and presenting of video content.
- Additional Opportunities: Engage in various aspects of the Sports Department’s operations, with a focus on women’s sports.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated interest and expertise in women’s sports.
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Ability to work across multiple platforms (digital, print, video, audio).
- Team player with a proactive attitude.
- Commitment to promoting gender equality in sports media.
Learning and Development:
- Mentorship: Receive guidance from a dedicated mentor from the senior leadership team.
- Buddy Days: Participate in ‘buddy days’ with various department members to learn different disciplines.
- Workshops and Think-Tanks: Engage in Sport Ireland’s Women in Sport Workshops and Media Think-Tank.

The Sports Department is a multi-platform operation producing content across digital, print, video, and audio.
