Job Title: Audience Editor
Reporting to: Team Lead, Regional Audience Team
Role Purpose
The Audience Editor is part of the regional editorial team, responsible for making sure our stories are delivered to the right audience, at the right time, on the right platform.
You will have multiple premium and free-to-access stories a day to distribute via the regional block on the home page, newsletters, county pages and social media to ensure they reach the largest audience possible. You will have excellent news judgement, a deep understanding of how online readers consume news and be adept at using data to inform your decisions.
You will also work collaboratively with the audience team, group editors, journalists and video teams.
Role Responsibilities (overview)
* Distribute our premium and free stories to reach the widest possible audience
* Curate compelling county pages and a regional block that reflect the full breadth of stories on Independent.ie
* Manage and send newsletters, using open and click-through rates to constantly improve engagement
* Optimise stories for search engines
* Create engaging social media posts that drive readers to our stories
* Use real-time and historical data to continuously optimise our readers’ experience
* Keep an eye on top stories to ensure they have the best headline and pictures and are presented in the best possible way
* Curate county pages so that they engage our local audiences
* Work strategically with the regional audience team to grow reach and engagement on our stories as the local news project continues to expand
* Demonstrate attention to detail in a busy, fast-paced work environment
Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)
At least one year’s editorial experience working in a digital media environment
Third level media/journalist qualification desirable
Experience of digital publishing and distribution
Skills - Technical & Non Technical
Content Management System–editing, page layout
Data literate comfortable - analytics, dashboards and charts
Excellent working knowledge of social media and other digital tools
Excellent knowledge of libel law
Self-starting, shows initiative, operate without supervision, motivated
Flexibility/willingness to adapt
Copy editing
Comfortable working on digital deadlines in a 24/7 news cycle where speed and accuracy are crucial
Ability to multi-task and work across different platforms and channels
Excellent news judgement
