Job Title: Audio and Video Journalist

Function: Editorial 

Department: Editorial Belfast

Reporting to: Head of Content

 

Role Purpose

Mediahuis Ireland/ The Belfast Telegraph is seeking to hire an Audio and Video Journalist.

The ideal candidate will be a talented, resourceful journalist with strong news judgment and the technical skills required to record audio, film, and edit content for publication.
The successful candidate will report to the Head of Content and will work closely with the Belfast Telegraph audio and video teams to deliver high-quality and engaging content to our growing audience. 

Provision of a showreel/ portfolio of work on application would be a bonus.

 

Role Responsibilities (Overview) 

Audio

*       Work on all aspects of podcasts such as scheduling, guest booking, research, editing and scripting when necessary.

*       Generate and develop ideas for the podcast guests, segments and episodes. 

*       Edit audio pieces and prepare podcasts for publication.

*       Write creative briefs, running orders and scripts to ensure hosts are well-informed.

*       Identify and book the best contributors and organise recording schedules.

*       Build and maintain strong relationships with contributors and hosts. 

*       Generate additional short form or social media content that will drive audiences to podcasts 

*       Experience ‘on-air’ reporting or presenting is a plus

 

Video

*       Develop creative, innovative ways of telling stories with video  

*       Produce, script and edit video, liaising with both journalists and section editors  

*       Direct and shoot single and multi-camera video in a studio/ office and on location, working with contributors and the public  

*       Edit video in a consistent style and tone  

*       Import and upload video, creating suitable metadata  

*       Work with Audience Editors to make sure our video reaches the widest possible audience  

*       Adhere to editorial and legal codes and practices  

 

This role will also require flexibility and versatility as it evolves to meet the demands of the ever-changing publishing environment.

 
 

Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge) 

*       At least 2 years’ experience of producing and editing video and audio, preferably for a news outlet with knowledge of news that appeals to a Northern Irish market

*       Up-to-date working knowledge of social media platforms most importantly YouTube 

*       A journalism qualification would be preferable   

*       A knowledge of internet analytics and SEO 

*       Full, clean driver’s licence is desirable 

 

Skills

Technical & Non-technical

*       Adobe Premier Pro, Photoshop & After Effects, Audition and Descript

*       Strong storytelling ability with focus on engaging narratives 

*       Shooting video using professional cameras 

*       On-camera/mic presentation skills (a bonus) 

*       Adobe After Effect (a bonus) 

 

Other

*       Comfortable with digital content and video management systems  

*       Excellent time management  

*       Ability to work to fast deadlines both individually and as part of a team 

*       Knowledge of libel law
