Job Title: Video Journalist (12 month FTC)

Reporting to: Group Head of Video
Role Purpose
Mediahuis Ireland is seeking to hire a Video Journalist on a 12 month contract. The ideal candidate will be a talented, resourceful video journalist with strong news judgement and technical skills required to not only film, but also to edit content for publication. The successful candidate will report to the Group Head of Video and will work closely with the editorial teams across all Mediahuis Ireland’s digital platforms including The Irish Independent, the Sunday World, Belfast Telegraph and our regional titles, as well as our four main YouTube channels. Provision of a showreel/ portfolio of work on application would be a bonus.
Role Responsibilities (Overview)
- Develop creative, innovative ways of telling stories with video
- Produce, script and edit video, liaising with both journalists and section editors
- Direct and shoot single and multi-camera video in a studio/ office and on location, working with contributors and the public
- Edit video in a consistent style and tone
- Import and upload video, creating suitable metadata
- Use data and assets from different sources to help generate ideas and identify subjects that will interest our audiences
- Use news wires and social listening to source additional video
- Work with Audience Editors to make sure our video reaches the widest possible audience
- Adhere to editorial and legal codes and practices
- This role requires three days in the office as per the company’s ‘blended’ working policy (3 days in, 2 days wfh), this will also include weekend work
Experience & Qualifications (Minimum Experience & Essential Knowledge)
- At least 2 years’ experience of producing and editing video, preferably for a news outlet
- Experience of creating social media video formats
- Up-to-date working knowledge of social media platforms most importantly YouTube
- A journalism qualification would be preferable
- A knowledge of internet analytics and SEO
- Full, clean driver’s licence is desirable

- Strong storytelling ability with focus on engaging visual narratives
- Shooting video using professional cameras
- On-camera presentation skills (a bonus)
- Adobe After Effect (a bonus)
