We are seeking candidates for the role of Senior Investigative Journalist with the Sunday Independent.

This is an exciting opportunity to provide high-impact, agenda-setting  journalism for our website and in print. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record in breaking high-profile stories of significant public interest and investigative journalism of the highest quality.

They will be able to tell these stories in a compelling fashion across a range of platforms: digitally, in print, on video and in audio format.

The role demands an ability to call a story, identify underlying themes and to explain complex developments crisply and accessibly.

Drive and ambition are key assets and a determination to beat the competition.

Role Responsibilities (Overview)

• To break stories and be a champion for original journalism

• To Investigate issues of public importance across a range of topics

• To interview people in a wide range of different circumstances and situations

• To build a strong network of contacts to maintain a flow of news ranging from political figures to the general public

• Collaborating with news editors, photographers, production staff and digital desks

• Ensure a high level of fast, accurate, fair and engaging journalism

• Performing other duties on occasion as required by the Head of News or Editor

• Delivering content to tight deadlines

• Ensure that our output reflects the audiences that we serve - and helps to grow subscriptions online and support print circulation

• Carry out your duties at all times in accordance with Mediahuis' Editorial Code of Practice and relevant professional and legal codes.

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

• A strong track record of producing high profile agenda-setting journalism

• Ability to tell stories across all platforms

• Excellent news judgment coupled with the ability to write engaging content and develop in-depth analysis

• Ability to maximise social media and other digital tools to source news information and promote journalism

• Ability to explain complex issues in an accessible manner

• Able to build and maintain effective working relationships with a range of people.

• Able to prioritise and plan activities taking into account all the relevant issues and factors such as deadlines and resource requirements
