About the role:
Mediahuis Ireland are seeking an experienced and highly motivated News Content Manager to lead day-to-day editorial operations within our Video Department. Reporting to the Group Head of Video, the successful candidate will be responsible for shaping the video news agenda, ensuring accurate, engaging, and timely video journalism, and working closely with newsroom editors, reporters, and video team. This role requires strong news judgement, excellent planning skills, and a collaborative approach to delivering high-quality video content across platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
Set and manage the daily video news agenda in line with the wider newsroom priorities.
Commission, edit, and oversee the production of video news stories, ensuring editorial accuracy, balance, and compliance with legal and ethical standards.
Work closely with newsroom editors, journalists, reporters, and correspondents to identify strong video-led stories and develop them for our video platforms on-site and off (YouTube and social media).
Collaborate with the Group Head of Video, video producers, videographers, and editors to ensure effective storytelling, pacing, and visual quality.
Provide clear editorial direction and feedback to video journalists and producers.
Plan medium- and long-term video projects, series, and special coverage.
Maintain awareness of audience trends, analytics, and platform performance to inform commissioning and editorial decisions.
Represent the Video Department in newsroom planning meetings as required.
Carry out your duties at all times in accordance with Mediahuis' Editorial Code of Practice and relevant professional and legal codes.
Skills & Competencies:
Excellent news judgement and strong editorial decision-making ability.
Strong planning, organisation, and prioritisation skills.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
Confident communicator, able to give constructive feedback and clear direction.
Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Digital-first mindset with knowledge of social, mobile, and online video platforms.
Experience & Qualifications:
A minimum of three years’ experience working in a newsroom environment, ideally with a digital first approach.
Proven track record of editing or commissioning news content.
Experience working with journalists, reporters, and production teams.
Familiarity with video production workflows and editing processes a bonus but not essential.
Journalism qualification or equivalent professional experience preferred.
